Gregg Kofi Brown

Singer, rhythm guitarist & bass player Gregg Kofi Brown has been a member of the world class African pioneers OSIBISA for over 25 years and has travelled all over the world promoting the music of Ghana.

Since joining OSIBISA Gregg has been invited to record and tour with many African and Caribbean artists such as Youssou Ndour (Senegal), George Lee (Ghana), Marta Ulaeto (Africa Rise album for Nigeria Independence anniversary), Abdel Kabir (Lye Ngum, Gambia), Ekome’ (Ghana/Jamaica), Chaka Demus & Pliers (Jamaica) and Benjamin Zephania (Jamaica).

Gregg Kofi Brown is featured vocalist and songwriter on Billy Cobham’s new Sony album “Drum N’ Voice” and has written & performed on Stanley Jordan’s new album ‘Dreams of Peace’. As a musician and singer he has also worked with ISAAC HAYES, BOMB THE BASS and FINLEY QUAYE

Emmanuel Rentzos profile


Emmanuel Rentzos

Emmanuel is one of the most prolific performers and songwriters in the United Kingdom today. His musical career began in Italy where he formed a five-piece band known as “The African People” (signed to the Polydor Label)

He subsequently moved to the United Kingdom and joined Jonny Nash as a keyboard player and vocalist. During this period he wrote “The Look in your eyes” which was an internoational hit. He also recorded with several acclaimed artists including “Toots and the Maytals”, “Speedy King and Jim Capaldi” amoongst others.

At the time the four-piece band “Santroft” came into existence and toured Africa with their innovative blend of African and Jazz inspired modes which made them a smash hit.

He then joined “Osibisa” on keyboards and vocals and pratically toured the whole world. His contribution earned him a Gold Disc. He has performed with artists including “Womack and Womack”, Bobby Womack, Peter Green (ex Fleetwood Mac), Bob Andy and Chaka Khan.

Kari Bannerman

Kari Bannerman,Ghana’s most renowned and versatile guitarist has over twenty years been playing popular African music.
He began his professional career in the mid seventies in Ghana with BOOMBAYA,and within a year won the ‘Band of the year’ award. A successful tour of UK,but Boombaya broke up before releasing an album.

Kari Bannerman then took his talent to OSIBISA,who reportedly topped the album chats in the continents. Kari toured the world with Osibisa,recorded several albums them and a gold disc for Osibisa tour of India 1981. Kari has become a sought after guitarist in Britain and currently Music Director with the circus style show ‘Africa Africa’ touring the continent.

Jean Dikoto Mandengue profile


Jean Dikoto Mandengue

Jean Dikoto Mandengue, also known as Jeannot Karl: Composer,singer, Bassist was born in Duala-Cameroon 1948.
He performed in France in the early 60’s with Claude Francois,Nino Ferrrer,Manu Dibango, Hal Singer and many others. Recorded with legenddary guitarist T-Bone Walker on album “feeling Good”.
He joined Osibisa in 1973 and moved to London from Paris. Recording and performing some of the largest music venues world-wide. His contribution on Albums of Osibisa,Warner Brothers and Buddah records was very much appreciated.

Dikoto is very active as a solo artist,and his latest CD releases are “Back to the Roots” and “Les Retrouvailes”

Mac Tontoh Profile


Mac Tontoh

Composer, arranger, producer.
Plays – Trumpet, Flugal horn, Cabassa.

One of the greatest pioneers of the fusion of African and Western music. He started playing the trumpet at the age of 17 with his brothers band (The Comets) in Kumasi – Ghana. Spent a brief period with the Brigade Band of Ghana’s first president, Dr. Kwame Nkrumah. Then played in Uhura Dance band. A founder member of Osibisa he has looked deeper into musical traditions of his own people, the Kete and Adowa styles. His new fusion of jazz and traditional rhythms confirms of his status as a truly vital force in world music.

Sol Amarfio

I was born on the 22nd Sept.1938 one of four boys and four girls. I was third of the boys. Also i had nine half brothers and sisters.
At the age 14 i started playing with my older brother who was on bass with the Tempos band led by E.T.Mensah. He was the one who named me the Rhythm Man.

When I finished my senior school at 16 my brother introduced me to his buddy an ace saxophonist Spike Anyankor and i joined his Rhythm Aces super group. Three years after with few of us from the Aces started a new band in Kumasi where I met Teddy for the first time. He was the sax player in the band.

In 1961 January I arrived in England. A year or so later Teddy came to the UK too & with some other African musicians we did a lot of functions for the African community.

In 1969 we formed Osibisa.

Arrived in London-England 1962 to further his music studies.
Led the BLACKSTARS BAND,then the CATSPAW and performed in UK & EUROPE and in 1969 with OSIBISA.Made 18 Albums with several Major Record Companies.Toured the Globe and still working.
